my Delhi family

Delhi has some very intense energy - a city with millions of people, with all the noise, heat, dirt of any large city compounded by that disorganized chaos masquerading as beauracracy that is uniquely India, it is simultaneously engaging, distracting, repulsive and fascinating. As a foreigner and a woman alone, it was at times quite intimidating. As I am not usually someone who intimidates easily, I found I had to draw on my reserves of toughness and insistence to get through it.

Fortunately I had a lot of help. Bugli, Navtaj and Navreet Singh live in a nice gated community of houses called New Friends Colony in New Delhi. Friends of friends, they were quick to offer to take me in and help me learn to wade through it all. I felt rescued, protected, cared for and adopted by these lovely people.
